Weight Percent

Definition

The Weight Percent (Weight %) represents the relative share of a task’s Total Amount compared to its parent’s Total Amount.

This ensures that when tasks are rolled up into higher-level activities, each child task contributes proportionally to its parent according to its cost.

How It Works in Our ProjectVIEW ERP

  1. Total Amount per Task Each BOQ Activity / line has a Total Amount value.

  2. Parent–Child Relationship

    • A parent task’s Total Amount is the sum of its children’s amounts.

    • Each child’s Weight % is calculated as:

    \text{Weight %} = \frac{\text{Child Task Total Amount}}{\text{Parent Task Total Amount}} \times 100

  3. Result

    • The Weight % column shows how much each child task contributes to its parent.

    • This allows the system to proportionally distribute progress and planned values across all tasks.

Example from the Board

Parent Task: 01.01.03 – Basement Concrete Works

  • Total Amount (Parent): Sum of its 3 children =

  • 3,199,009.18+438,062.18+728,688.18=4,365,759.54

Child Task A: 01.01.03.A – Foundation Concrete

  • Total Amount = 3,199,009.18

  • Weight % =

    3,199,009.184,365,759.54×100=73.27%\frac{3,199,009.18}{4,365,759.54} \times 100 = 73.27\%4,365,759.543,199,009.18×100=73.27%

Child Task B: 01.01.03.B – Basement Floor Slab

  • Total Amount = 438,062.18

  • Weight % =

    438,062.184,365,759.54×100=10.03%\frac{438,062.18}{4,365,759.54} \times 100 = 10.03\%4,365,759.54438,062.18×100=10.03%

Child Task C: 01.01.03.C – Basement Roof Slab

  • Total Amount = 728,688.18

  • Weight % =

    728,688.184,365,759.54×100=16.69%\frac{728,688.18}{4,365,759.54} \times 100 = 16.69\%4,365,759.54728,688.18×100=16.69%

The Weight Percent column ensures that every task is expressed as a share of its parent’s total.

  • This makes reporting consistent.

  • It allows progress (Done %) and planned values (BCWS) to be rolled up meaningfully to higher levels.

  • In other words: Weight % is the cost-based importance of a task within its parent structure.
